I don’t know about y’all, but 2013 has been quite a year! whew! I want to thank everyone for supporting my fall tour that just ended, for a minute there I thought I wasn’t gonna make it, thought everything was gonna fall apart after 3+ months of work. But with your support I was able to overcome all obstacles and somehow pull off doing that tour! I was solo from Oct. 12th till I got back to Richmond and it was the first time I had ever done a tour that long by myself. I drove by myself for 4, 9, and sometimes 12-15 hours at a time, slept in my 96 Oldsmobile when I needed to, drank lots of coffee, and had an amazing time! Thinking back it feels almost like I dreamt it. I think my three favorite cities on that tour were: Nashville, Tulsa, Austin and New Orleans! Definitely will be visiting those places again on future tours!
I played my last Virginia show of the year last week with my good friends The Green Boys and new friends J.D Wilkes and The Dirt Daubers. It was a really fun show and I was really honored to share the stage with such an awesome buncha people!
Now I am in sunny Miami until after New Years, getting some much needed booking and planning work done for early 2014. Speaking of early 2014, lets talk about plans for January:
January tour with Alex Culbreth:
1/6 Western VA
1/7 Snug Harbor Charlotte NC ( Country Tuesday)
We are still confirming details and dates, so please RSVP to keep track, and let us know if you have any advice or want us to come to your town! I am really looking forward to 2014 and am trying to be on the road as much as possible!
Also, don’t forget to go and download my new album! as well as a brand new track recorded with George from reclusive folk solo project Yankee Roses and fiddle player for Los Bastardos Magnificos We have plans to put out a demo in 2014 so consider it a little preview!
Really bummed to announce but unfortunately due to complications, Tilford Sellers will not be joining me for any of the fall tour dates. Regardless, this is gonna be an awesome tour and I had some friends sign on for different dates and totally save my butt! Andy Vaughan (of Andy Vaughan and The Driveline, one of Richmond’s most active Honky tonk and classic country bands) will be joining me for September dates in NYC, PA and Baltimore! Alex Culbreth (Of Alex Culbreth & The Dead Country Stars) will be joining me for most dates October 2-10th.
Here are the confirmed dates for the fall tour! Please make sure to check facebook for last minute updates, show additions and information for specific shows, and that is where you will find all the separate event pages for each show under the events tab! So excited!

Also want to give a shout out to my good friend, film maker John Appleton, for filming this video of me playing a brand new original song, co-written by amazing country singer and songwriter Cory Shenk (who will be joining me for the Cleveland show on the 28th at Now that’s class!). We wrote the chorus for this song while we were at Clifftop back in August, sitting on top of his car, quite intoxicated, making up song lyrics and watching drunk people square dance in the dirt, in the dark of a West Virginia night. The song is called, “When I feel weak, I pour a strong drink” and it’s a waltz. Click the song title to go there. I’m working on getting Cory to quit school and start a country band with me…stay tuned for updates on my progress….
Be on the look out for new recordings being posted to bandcamp soon, even if it’s just a few.
Please help me out in each new town I’m visiting on this tour, and tell your friends to tell their friends to come out and see the show!
Next update will be from the road! xo
Whew. So I’ve been back from tour for about a week now. Thank you so much to all the venues, bands and people who supported us along the way, we really couldn’t do it without you. Please continue to check out Brownbird Rudy Relic’s tour dates, as he will be on the road for most of the rest of this year…..We also might have a big announcement in a few months regarding 2014…..stay tuned!
A few things:
– I recently got an iphone (welcome to 2013, grandma!) and also an instagram, follow me @Alison_Self for an intimate look(oh la la!) into my daily life including the food I eat, the beer I drink, shows I attend and it will probably be weird at times, just a warning!

-I’m planning a fall tour with that guy in that picture up there, Tilford Sellers from Columbus, IN!!! He and his band The Wagon Burners are a great bunch of folks and musicians and I’m really excited to be getting in a van with them at the end of September. I know that might sound sarcastic but it aint. You can keep up with the tour on facebook and as we get shows confirmed they will be added to the show list on this website. We also just added him to the Reltone Records family! So look out for collaborations with other reltone artists!
Thanks everyone, please stay updated by liking me on facebook and watching out for a show near you! xo
We are nearing a week of being on the road, it’s funny how one moment 4 days feels like 4 weeks and other times 4 minutes, but that’s how it goes. We’ve had some great shows and I want to thank everyone who has come out to support us! One CD purchase at $10 = about one good meal a day for a hungry touring musician and makes sure we don’t have to survive on junk food, so thank you, from the bottom of my stomach and heart. See you on the road! xo
I am so pleased that this website is all done! Please take a look around, make a note of Brownbird Rudy Relic and I’s upcoming ‘Reltone Revue’ Tour June 19th-July 13th. We are still adding details for all the shows so check us out on facebook for all the correct info, or check in with venues if you are unsure!
See yall on the road!
